Improving $96M Cash Flow Leveraging Blockchain
A mining company financial solution to optimize the burdens of document transactions and accounts reconciliation that freed up nearly $100MM
Achievement Background
Lack of trust and transparency raise several inefficiencies on asset and money related transaction processes. Such hurdles have a direct impact at customer’s key strategic imperative to improve cash flow.
From the initial conversation with customer’s head of treasury until contract signing I led the financial benefits conversation, the IBM team and methods towards a Design Thinking Discovery session with customer’s Head of Treasury team resulting on 3 out of 9 prioritized initiatives that were estimated to represent nearly USD100M free cash flow benefits per year.
From signing of the contract, I led the solution architecture from technology, delivery and customer stakeholders perspective, making sure the business value proposition pitched in the sales cycle would remain strong and consistent while keeping the technology solution feasible
The blockchain based financial solutions came out to be a huge opportunity for customer to lead the transformation in the mining sector, becoming the founder of a letter of credit business network.
While I was responsible for keeping customer expectations on track, leading the diverse architecture and delivery team at IBM, I’ve also developed spin off business opportunities from this project bringing together peers and the customer towards what might become the transparent supply chain business network for bulk material trades.
Due to inherent diversity of blockchain solutions, several integration challenges presented itself. Taking in consideration a multipart stakeholder map, I led the design and implementation of multiple hybrid cloud integration patterns and operational models.
